Could we see Daniel Ricciardo return to Formula 1? Rumour has it that the Australian is the top contender to take a seat in Cadillac’s upcoming eleventh team. Earlier this year, Ricciardo had to bid farewell to the premier class after the Singapore Grand Prix.
The Australian was a beloved driver during his Formula 1 career, and many fans were therefore disappointed by Daniel Ricciardo’s departure last September. According to the German BILD, fans may not have to mourn for long, as the former RB driver is said to be the favourite for a seat with the American Cadillac team.
Cadillac will join the Formula 1 grid as the eleventh team in 2026. Formula 1 signed a preliminary agreement with General Motors, the parent company of the Cadillac brand, at the end of November. BILD reports that the American team would like to have an experienced driver in their car alongside a young American star, who can also be a “figurehead from an advertising and marketing perspective”. “(Ricciardo’s) comeback with Cadillac would catapult the popularity of the new team from zero to one hundred,” says the German tabloid.
Multiple Options
Whether Ricciardo will actually return remains to be seen. According to the British Sun, the Australian has already received an offer to race with Toyota in NASCAR from 2026. The former Red Bull driver made his debut in Formula 1 in 2011, and claimed victory eight times during his tenure in the premier class. In September, he was replaced at Red Bull’s sister team, Visa RB, by Liam Lawson.
