In recent weeks, there has been much controversy over the alleged biased reporting in the British media. Max Verstappen felt that he was often unfairly criticized by the English press. “I have the wrong passport,” he said in the run-up to the Mexican GP. However, reporter and former Formula 1 driver Martin Brundle denies that there is any bias in the British reporting.

During a podcast by Sky Sports, the issue of biased English media was discussed in detail. According to many experts, the medium is one of the main culprits when it comes to biased reporting. Martin Brundle, one of the prominent figures in the broadcasts of Sky, once again denied favoring certain drivers.

“I don’t think the British reporting is biased,” said Brundle. “Of course, I am British and we mainly broadcast to a British channel,” he admitted. “But others take our images from all over the world.” He pointed out how there is actual bias in other sports broadcasts. “When I watch the Olympics or the World Cup, the commentators are obviously in favor of the country they come from. I don’t think we do that.

‘We are fairly balanced’

“I believe we at Sky Sports are actually quite balanced,” Brundle continued. “Of course, we receive a lot of criticism, but if I’ve learned anything over the years, it’s that no one will remember the thousand positive things you’ve said. Everyone is waiting for that one negative comment. No one ever comes up to you and says, ‘Thanks for what you said about us.’

Then it occurred to Martin Brundle that he once received a thank-you for his positive commentary. “I’ve had it happen once,” he grinned. “Nico Rosberg came up to me after the Malaysian GP and said, ‘I want to thank you for what you said about me last weekend.’ I replied that I really appreciated him coming up to me. When I asked him what he liked so much, he responded, ‘I don’t know. My mother said I should thank you.’ So, in reality, I’ve never been sincerely thanked,” he concluded with a laugh.
