Great news for Formula 2 driver Dino Beganovic! The Swede is the first rookie to be allowed to participate in a free practice session in Formula 1 in 2025. Beganovic will make his debut for Ferrari during the Bahrain Grand Prix, taking the wheel of Charles Leclerc‘s SF-25.

Beganovic’s debut means that Charles Leclerc will have to watch from the sidelines for a while. The Formula 2 driver will make his debut in Leclerc’s SF-25 at the Bahrain International Circuit. With the announcement of Beganovic’s debut, Ferrari becomes the first team to allow a rookie to participate in a free practice session in 2025.

Ferrari Takes the Lead

According to the 2025 regulations, teams are required to include a rookie in their cars twice during the season. Last year, teams only had to do this once a year. A driver is only considered a rookie if they have started in fewer than two Formula 1 races. Beganovic is the fifth driver from the Ferrari Driver Academy to make his debut with Ferrari. He follows in the footsteps of Charles Leclerc, his brother Arthur Leclerc, Robert Schwartzman, and Oliver Bearman.

Beganovic is balancing his Formula 1 debut with his Formula 2 commitments for the Hitech Grand Prix team. The Swede is in his first full season in the feeder series and currently ranks fifteenth in the drivers’ championship. Beganovic secured a fourteenth place finish in the first sprint race of the season. The Formula 2 main race in Melbourne was cancelled due to poor weather conditions. The Swede has been part of the Ferrari Driver Academy since 2020.

Dino Beganovic finished fourteenth in the F2 sprint race in Melbourne.
