Within just a few minutes, the Australian Grand Prix has already turned into a spectacular race. Racing Bulls rookie Isack Hadjar didn’t make it past the formation lap, while Jack Doohan and Carlos Sainz Jr suffered in the opening round. Due to poor weather conditions in Melbourne, both drivers ended up in the wall. This was particularly painful for Doohan, who was not only racing at home, but is also under pressure within Alpine.

After a delayed start of fifteen minutes due to Hadjar’s crash, the safety car was quickly deployed in Melbourne. In the first round of the new Formula 1 season, Jack Doohan and Carlos Sainz crashed one after the other. Doohan hit the white lines on the straight with one wheel and immediately lost control of his Alpine due to the wet conditions on the Albert Park Circuit. The Australian made a hard hit and wrote off his brand new car within a few meters.

Not much later, the cameras switched to Carlos Sainz, who had to prematurely end his debut for Williams. He too slid off the track in Melbourne after just one round due to the large amount of water on the track. At the front, Max Verstappen managed to overtake Oscar Piastri, while Lando Norris was able to maintain his leading position. Behind the safety car, several drivers noted that the circuit is slowly starting to dry up.
