The Formula E season started dramatically in Brazil for Dutchman Robin Frijns. The driver was unable to participate in the race after things went wrong at the start. Nyck de Vries, who now races for Mahindra Racing after his Formula 1 adventure, was able to make a good comeback. The driver finished in seventh place.
The new Formula E season kicked off this weekend with a spectacular race in São Paulo. Unfortunately for Robin Frijns, his race was over before it had properly begun. The Limburger did appear at the start, but due to technical problems with his Envision Racing vehicle, he was unable to start. Frijns had to be rolled away before the rest of the field could start the race.
Chaotic Opening Race
The opening race itself was further plagued by three safety car periods and multiple drive through penalties, including one for Nissan driver Oliver Rowland. Adding insult to injury for the Nissan team was the fact that at that time, Rowland was leading the race. Meanwhile, De Vries was able to stay out of trouble and drove to a respectable seventh place. The Dutchman thus made a great comeback, as De Vries had started from twenty-first place.
Jaguar’s Mitch Evans eventually came out on top in a race with five race leaders and 111 overtakes, winning the first Formula E race of the season. António Félix da Costa and Taylor Barnard joined Evans on the podium.
