Eddie Jordan hopes it’s not too late for Ferrari to replace Lewis Hamilton with another driver. The seven-time world champion is set to make his long-awaited move to Maranello in 2025. During a challenging final year at Mercedes, Hamilton hinted several times that he sometimes doubts his own abilities. According to Jordan, it might as well be time to give up hope.
“If you don’t believe in yourself one hundred percent, you’re in trouble,” said Eddie Jordan on his Formula For Success podcast. The former team boss, along with co-host David Coulthard, discussed Hamilton’s inconsistent year. The seven-time world champion did win two Grand Prix, but often struggled with the handling of his W15. Especially towards the end of the season, Hamilton seemed ready to throw in the towel at times.
“Anyone who has even a shred of self-doubt has voices in their head telling them that things aren’t right. At that point, you can no longer have confidence in a positive outcome. Then you lack the right ability. I heard Lewis (Hamilton) say at one point that he wasn’t fast enough anymore. If I were Ferrari, I would say, ‘We don’t need Hamilton anymore, we’re looking for a way out.'”
Finally, Eddie Jordan addressed Hamilton directly. “I have a small message for you, Lewis,” he said. “If you’re listening, remember that you have plenty of other things in life. You have your music, your fashion, you have so many other things to worry about. In the eyes of most people, you’re already the greatest driver of all time. Remember that a good exit is always the best. This is the moment. Please, go.
