It increasingly appears that Sergio Pérez’s tenure at Red Bull is coming to an end. Various sources report that the Austrian racing team plans to replace the Mexican driver by 2025. The news is expected to be announced after the Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi.
Christian Horner hinted at this after the Grand Prix in Qatar, and according to outlets such as The Race and ESPN, Pérez’s Red Bull journey will conclude after Abu Dhabi. “We will give him all the support we can until the flag in Abu Dhabi,” Horner previously warned Pérez. “What he decides to do after that is ultimately his decision. He is old enough and wise enough to draw his own conclusions.”
Ambassador Role
The official decision about the driver’s future will take place on December 9, the day after the race in Abu Dhabi, between Pérez, Horner, and Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko. Earlier this year, the Mexican signed a contract extension with the Austrian racing team, meaning he cannot be easily dismissed. The team is reportedly looking for an ambassadorial role for Pérez, similar to the role offered to Daniel Ricciardo after his departure from Visa RB last September.
Visa RB driver Liam Lawson is reportedly the prime candidate to become Max Verstappen’s teammate in 2025. Red Bull junior Isack Hadjar, who currently competes in Formula 2, could then join Yuki Tsunoda at Visa RB.
