How long will Fernando Alonso remain in Formula 1? This is a frequently asked question about the future of the 43-year-old driver. Alonso has a contract with Aston Martin until 2026, but even his manager, Flavio Briatore, is uncertain about what the Spaniard plans to do afterwards.

Fernando Alonso made his debut in the premier class of motorsport in 2001 and is currently in his 21st season. The Spaniard also has a contract with his current employer, Aston Martin, for the next two years, but it is still unclear what Alonso wants to do after that. Even for his manager, Flavio Briatore.

Fernando Alonso’s Future in Racing

“If you ask me whether Fernando wants to continue after we have ended our contract, our last year is currently 2026. What he wants to do after that, I don’t know,” admits Briatore in the Formula For Success podcast. “Does he want to continue for another year? You see Fernando’s performances, they are there.”

Unique

Alonso currently ranks ninth in the drivers’ standings, and according to his manager, he still has the motivation to fight for more. “It’s not about him losing his focus, he’s always there during the race. If he’s eleventh, he wants to be tenth. If he’s tenth, he wants to be ninth,” Briatore explains. “He wants the car to be competitive. He qualifies well, he races well. Honestly, I don’t know if he wants to stop with 2026 as his last year or if he wants to continue.”

Although Briatore is not yet sure whether Alonso will still be in Formula 1 after 2026, he knows that the Spaniard is “unique” among all other drivers. “I have never seen someone so determined every day, every day, every day. He never gives up. Incredible.”
