Fernando Alonso was over the moon as he received his latest speed machine on Wednesday. The 43-year-old driver opted for a ‘company car’ in the form of a brand-new Aston Martin Valkyrie. The Valkyrie, a project by Adrian Newey, is touted by the British car brand as a true ‘Formula 1 car’ for the road.

The Aston Martin dealership in Monaco had a visit from Fernando Alonso on Wednesday. The Spaniard came to pick up his new Valkyrie, the most exclusive hypercar from the English manufacturer. Alonso had to wait quite a while for his new vehicle; the first customers received their Valkyries at the end of 2021. The two-time world champion had just made his comeback with Alpine. “I’ve waited so long for this day,” Alonso writes in an official press release. “This is truly a Formula 1 car for the open road. I can’t wait to take it for a spin!”

The Astonishing Valkyrie of Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso’s Valkyrie, much like his Formula 1 car, is finished in a dark green paint with light green accents. The car is powered by a 6.5-liter V12 from Cosworth and is equipped with various gadgets from Formula 1. Naturally, an extreme car comes with an extreme price tag; reportedly, one has to shell out around 3 million euros for a Valkyrie, although Alonso may have received a staff discount.

Adrian Newey’s Masterpiece

The design of the Valkyrie is the work of Adrian Newey. The acclaimed designer drew the car when Aston Martin was still a sponsor of the Red Bull Formula 1 team. This makes the car essentially a precursor to the RB17; this hypercar was unveiled in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Other F1 Drivers with a Valkyrie

Fernando Alonso is not the only Formula 1 driver with a Valkyrie in the garage. Max Verstappen caused a stir last year when footage emerged of the Dutch driver pushing his Valkyrie hard in a French tunnel. It seemed for a moment as if Verstappen would be punished for the joyride. However, the French authorities have taken no further action.
