Seasoned Spanish racer, Fernando Alonso, is set to welcome Adrian Newey to his team. Alonso has spent years competing against the master designer’s creations, but Newey has now officially joined Aston Martin. Alonso is thrilled to welcome the 65-year-old Brit to Silverstone and anticipates benefiting from his expertise in the near future.
Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll were both present at the unveiling of Aston Martin’s latest addition, the legendary Adrian Newey. The aerodynamics guru, who previously left Red Bull, is now seeking a ‘new challenge’ at Silverstone. Alonso, who has raced against Newey-designed cars for over two decades, is delighted to finally welcome his ‘arch-rival’ to his own team.
“We’ve been racing against each other for so long,” Alonso told the press. “Of course, he was somewhat my arch-enemy, but at the same time, he has always inspired me. He motivated me and my team to continually improve, build better cars, and fight harder.” This rivalry came to an end on Tuesday when Newey joined Aston Martin.
The Team of the Future
“This is a fantastic day for the team,” continued Alonso. “We are truly the team of the future. A new wind tunnel, Honda, Aramco, and now Adrian Newey,” he listed. “It’s a great opportunity to work with so many talented people, you can learn a lot from them. Besides Adrian Newey, it’s also an honor to work with Lawrence (Stroll) and everyone at Aston Martin.”
“This is a very big day,” added Lance Stroll. “I think this might be the most important moment in the history of this team. He has won more titles than anyone else in the paddock, and now he’s finally wearing our green clothes! 2026 promises to be a great year for us, so this is only positive.”
