Ferrari’s team principal, Frédéric Vasseur, reveals that the Scuderia is considering bringing upgrades to Qatar. Ferrari was one of the few teams in Austin that didn’t bring significant upgrades, but that didn’t stop the Italian team from taking a one-two finish. However, Vasseur cautions fans not to expect a repeat of this success in Mexico.
Ferrari surprised everyone in Austin. Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz crossed the finish line in first and second place respectively. However, team principal Vasseur warns fans not to expect a repeat at the upcoming Grand Prix weekend in Mexico. According to the Frenchman, the race weekend in Mexico City will be much more challenging.
“The next race is exceptional on the F1 calendar. Mainly because of the altitude, it’s a big challenge in terms of cooling for the brakes, for the engine, and so on,” Vasseur tells international media. The Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez circuit in Mexico City is 2,285 meters above sea level. The Mexican circuit is the highest F1 circuit in the world. “I think Brazil will probably be more in line with Austin,” the Frenchman gives fans some hope for the third weekend of the triple header.
Upgrades in Qatar?
Ferrari was one of the few teams in Austin that decided not to bring major upgrades to the Circuit of the Americas. It didn’t affect the result, but Vasseur reveals that the Scuderia is still considering bringing an upgrade package to the SF-24 later in the season. “As for the upgrades, if we have good options, we will do our best to bring something,” says the French team principal. “But it will probably be for, not Vegas, but Qatar.”
