What sets Lewis Hamilton apart as a racing driver? Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur has the answer. According to Vasseur, there’s one key characteristic that distinguishes Hamilton from other drivers. This was also a compelling reason for the team boss to bring the seven-time world champion to Ferrari.
Ferrari announced early in the season that Lewis Hamilton would be moving to Maranello in 2025. The world champion had signed a contract extension with Mercedes in 2023, but decided to tear it up and make a switch to Ferrari.
Ferrari team boss Vasseur is certainly pleased with Hamilton’s decision to join his team. The Brit has one characteristic that sets him apart from other drivers. “Lewis is a machine,” Vasseur tells The Times. “The biggest difference between Lewis and the majority of the grid, and I don’t want to make a personal comparison, is that he is organized like a company.”
The Machine
Vasseur also explains what he means by comparing Hamilton to a machine. “In his mind, in his approach, he knows what he wants to do, when he wants to do it. He is able to separate every pillar of the activity and for us, for Ferrari, that will be useful,” says Vasseur. However, the Frenchman does not expect the entire organization at Ferrari to be overhauled once Hamilton begins his Scuderia adventure.
