The FIA has announced measures to assist Formula 1 teams after tyre supplier Pirelli encountered ‘logistical challenges’. The tyre supplier experienced delays in delivering tyres to Shanghai ahead of the race weekend. To accommodate the teams, the FIA has adjusted the ‘curfew’, the so-called night-time period, on Wednesday evening.

Normally, a night-time period of eleven and a half hours applies every evening for all Formula 1 teams. During this period, the racing stables are not allowed to work on their cars. The FIA has shortened this period for Wednesday night only, to six hours, due to delivery problems at Pirelli. In this way, the FIA hopes to enable the teams, and Pirelli, to be ready in time for the race weekend.

‘Logistical Challenges’

“Due to logistical challenges for the official tyre supplier, which resulted in freight delays, the following concessions are made,” reads the official FIA statement. “On Wednesday evening only, the curfew period is reduced to a period of 5.5 to a maximum of six hours for operational personnel. The sole purpose is to prepare the tyres after the tyre assembly by the supplier.”
