Formula 1 Shakeup: Carlos Sainz’s Uncertain Future and Its Impact on the Drivers’ Market

June 20th, 2024, 5:00 PM

The Formula 1 drivers’ market is moving at an unprecedented pace this season, but currently, one transfer has brought the carousel to a halt. We’re talking about Carlos Sainz, who will have to give up his seat at Ferrari to Lewis Hamilton after this season and does not yet have a contract for next year.

Initially, it seemed that Sainz might have a chance to join Red Bull, given Sergio Perez’s mediocre performances at the start of the year. However, the Bull Stable chose to continue with the Mexican. Mercedes also seemed like an option, but now it appears that 17-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli is being signed there.

The most logical remaining options are Audi and Williams. With the drivers’ market waiting for Sainz’s next move, it’s clear that his decision will have a domino effect on the rest of the drivers who do not yet have a contract for next year. Until then, the future of many F1 drivers remains uncertain.

Kevin Magnussen, who is reportedly being replaced by Oliver Bearman next year, was asked about his plans during the press conference for the Spanish Grand Prix. Magnussen pointed to Sainz and said, “He is the cork in the bottle. Many guys are waiting for his decision. Eventually, all the other puzzle pieces will fall into place.”
