The Circuit Zandvoort will disappear from the Formula 1 calendar after 2026, the organization announced on Wednesday morning. After six editions of the modern Dutch GP, the collaboration with the FOM can no longer be extended. The question arises whether the racing festival could be organized elsewhere in the Netherlands. Could the Dutch GP, for example, move to the TT Circuit in Assen?

The Algemeen Dagblad spoke – in response to the announced departure of Zandvoort from the Formula 1 calendar – with a spokesperson for the TT Circuit in Assen. Does this offer opportunities for the organization to bring the Dutch GP to Drenthe? “We are not at all busy with it,” the spokesperson responded. “This is also fresh for us, but at this moment it plays no role in our strategic considerations.”

‘Enormous respect’

The TT Circuit in Assen further indicated having ‘enormous respect’ for the organization behind the GP of Zandvoort. After all, a spectacular event was set up in the Dutch seaside resort over the past four years. The Dutch GP was praised worldwide for its unique fan experience and strong focus on sustainability. Moreover, the organization did everything without support from the Dutch government – as one of the few Grands Prix, the race weekend in Zandvoort is fully privately financed.

“Organizing a Grand Prix is no small task,” the spokesperson continued. “A lot of money is involved, and a significant business risk is taken. For motorsport in the Netherlands, we find it very regrettable that it stops in Zandvoort after six years. But the organization has made a very conscious decision based on experience. We respect that too. We can be proud of what has been achieved and how all this has gone.
