Today, the FIA unveiled the new Formula 1 car for 2026. The vehicle is smaller, lighter, and generates less downforce. However, Lewis Hamilton has expressed criticism over the design, questioning if further weight reduction could be achieved.
“We’re only talking about 30 kilograms,” the Mercedes driver stated during a press conference in Canada. “So, they’re still too heavy. Moreover, I’ve spoken to a few drivers who have tested this model in the simulator, and they told me that the car is quite slow.”
“In terms of sustainability, a good step is being made,” the seven-time world champion pointed out, referring to the increase in battery power. “But for us, it’s crucial that the quality of racing needs to improve.”
“It’s interesting, and the driving behavior will be drastically different due to the reduced downforce,” added Nico Hülkenberg. “But some aspects will need to improve. Let’s see what will happen in the next year and a half.”
