Franco Colapinto has been making a splash this season at Williams, but he has dismissed rumors that he might secure a spot with one of the Red Bull teams in 2025. Despite his impressive performances, the Argentine driver doesn’t anticipate a Formula 1 seat in the near future and is focusing on what lies ahead.
A Surprising Start, But No Certainty
Since his F1 debut in Monza, Colapinto has made a name for himself. However, the rookie remains realistic about his chances of securing a permanent seat in 2025. “I don’t understand where these rumors are coming from,” he responds to the speculation on F1 TV. “I don’t have a spot for next year, so I’ll probably be racing temporarily in another class. I’m working hard and hope to return in 2026 or 2027.” Despite the unlikelihood of a permanent spot next year, Colapinto continues to give his all in every race to prove himself.
Williams Open to a Loan Arrangement
Rumors suggest that Williams team boss James Vowles is open to a loan arrangement, allowing Colapinto to gain experience with another team. Discussions between Williams and Red Bull about this have reportedly already taken place. With Sergio Pérez’s position at Red Bull uncertain, and Liam Lawson potentially being promoted, there’s a chance that Colapinto could be on Red Bull’s list.
However, Helmut Marko has his doubts about ‘borrowing’ a driver outside of Red Bull’s training program. “The problem is that he has a long-term contract with Williams,” Marko states about Colapinto. “It’s not attractive to train a driver for another team.”
