Franco Colapinto’s Concerns Ahead of the Race
Franco Colapinto finished a respectable ninth in the qualifiers, outpacing his Williams teammate Alex Albon (tenth). However, the Argentine driver is harboring significant concerns ahead of Sunday’s race. “My mistake in FP1 could come back to haunt me,” he admits.
After a promising debut in Italy – finishing twelfth, nearly in the points – Colapinto received widespread praise. Rightfully so, as the replacement for Logan Sargeant demonstrated both talent and speed in Monza. Team boss James Vowles predicted earlier this week that points should be achievable in Azerbaijan. Despite an excellent qualification, the driver believes this could be challenging.
“I made a mistake in the first free practice (which caused a red flag). And that means I couldn’t do good long runs, which is a problem,” Colapinto expressed his concerns after the qualifiers. What Colapinto can achieve in terms of race pace will only become apparent on Sunday afternoon. “The team, of course, has data, so hopefully a good result is still possible based on that.”
Colapinto’s Second Appearance for Williams
Finishing ninth in the qualifiers in his second appearance for Williams was understandably satisfying for him. “I’m very happy, each round was slightly better. Sometimes it was a struggle with the tires, but I made it to Q3, which was also the goal. A good turnaround after the first free practice.”
