Frédéric Vasseur, in a recent press conference, discussed the challenges and opportunities in the current Formula 1 season. With McLaren leading the constructors’ championship and Red Bull hot on their heels, Ferrari remains focused on their strategy, not allowing the constructors’ championship standings to distract them.

Not Focused on the Constructors’ Championship

Vasseur emphasized that Ferrari’s primary focus is not on the constructors’ championship. “We’re taking it race by race,” the team boss stated. “The constructors’ championship standings are hard to read; they can change in an instant. Look at how Mercedes performed before and after the summer break. It doesn’t matter if you’re in the first or second group, the competition is incredibly close.” With the upcoming races, there are approximately 400 points up for grabs, which means the focus is on the upcoming races, starting with Singapore.

Momentum Building at Ferrari

With Charles Leclerc securing four consecutive podium finishes, it appears that Ferrari is building momentum. Vasseur acknowledges this positive trend, but cautions that the competition is intense. “We are on a good run, but so are several other teams. You never know where you’re going to end up.” In terms of technical upgrades, Ferrari has introduced a new front wing. However, Vasseur does not expect it to be a ‘game changer’.

Carlos Sainz’s Recovery

As for Carlos Sainz, who was involved in a crash in Baku, Vasseur believes it was beneficial for him to quickly return to the track. “It’s good for Carlos that he could immediately get back on the track, especially in Singapore, where he has good memories.” The team boss is optimistic about Sainz’s approach for the upcoming weekend and does not anticipate any negative repercussions from the crash in Baku.
