Robin Frijns secured his first podium finish of the Formula E season, finishing third in Miami on Saturday. Pole-sitter Norman Nato crossed the finish line first in the United States.
Although the race in Miami was worth watching from the start, the real drama, as often happens, was in the final stages. With five laps to go, the race was halted following a three-car accident at the chicane. Drivers Max Günther (DS Penske), Mitch Evans (Jaguar), and Jack Hughes (Maserati) emerged unscathed, but the incident resulted in a red flag.
Just prior to this, De Vries saw his chances of a podium finish, or perhaps more, evaporate as he stalled in the Mahindra. The Dutchman was able to continue, but he fell significantly behind. After the red flag, De Vries resumed the race from 18th place, while Frijns was in a much better position at the restart: fourth.
In the last five laps of the race, Frijns was one of the drivers who still had an ‘Attack Mode’, i.e., four-wheel drive and 50 kWh more power. This proved beneficial: the Limburger moved up to second place at the expense of Nato and Antonio Felix da Costa, but Pascal Wehrlein proved too strong. Nato then made a comeback, took the lead, and won. Frijns finished third.
