George Russell is somewhat puzzled as to why he crashed his W15 during the second practice session (VT2) in Mexico. The British driver hit the kerbstones too hard, causing him to lose control of his Mercedes vehicle. While Russell himself was unharmed, his team faces another long night to repair the W15 in time.

Less than a week after his crash during the qualifying round of the United States Grand Prix, George Russell ends up in the barriers again in Mexico. The Brit hit the kerbstone too hard in turn eight, causing him to lose control of his W15. Russell was unharmed and will be able to continue driving throughout the weekend in Mexico City.

“I feel good. I feel a bit short of breath after that one (crash),” Russell tells the media present. “Honestly, I don’t exactly know what happened. The car just started bouncing off the ground and before I had a chance to catch it, it was already spinning. I tried to take the same line when cutting that corner and for some reason, I lost control of the thing in VT2.”

Significant Work Ahead

The crash is certainly a disappointment for the Mercedes driver, as he finished VT1 earlier on Friday as the fastest. For the mechanics, it’s now a race against the clock to repair Russell’s W15 in time. “A lot of work again for the guys. It seems like it’s one thing after another at the moment. It’s frustrating because we were really strong, really fast in VT1,” Russell also sighs. The Brit hopes that he can make up for some missed practice time during the third practice session (VT3).
