Haas team boss Ayao Komatsu is already extremely pleased with his team’s results in 2024, four races before the end of the season. The American racing team finished last in the constructor’s championship last year, but thanks to the ‘unity’ within Haas and successful upgrades, the team has scored many valuable points this season.
With a total of 46 points, the Haas team currently holds a commendable sixth place in the constructor’s championship. This is a significant improvement for the team compared to 2023, when Haas finished at the bottom of the standings with just 12 points. Haas team boss Ayao Komatsu knows why his team has made progress.
“It’s fantastic that we’ve implemented several upgrades throughout the year and that each one has made the car faster. That wasn’t the case before,” the Japanese boss tells Formula1.com. The American team brought updates for the VF24 to the Grands Prix of Great Britain and the United States, among others.
For Komatsu, who took over from Günther Steiner in January, a sixth place in the championship would be the icing on the cake of a very successful season. “At the beginning of the season, our goal was P8 in the championship,” the team boss explains. “We never expected that we could fight for P6. But with all the upgrades we’ve made to the car, and then the performances of our drivers, we’re fighting for P6 and that’s fantastic. Everyone is looking forward to every race, which wasn’t the case last year.”
Unity
According to Komatsu, the current success of Haas is not only due to ‘very good individuals’, but also to the unity within the small team. “Everything for me is focused on what I can do better to make us work as a team, because we’re such a small team. If we don’t work as a team, we don’t stand a chance,” Komatsu concludes.
