According to Lewis Hamilton, his debut with Ferrari at the Australian Grand Prix did not live up to his expectations, and many shared his sentiment. The seven-time world champion only managed to finish tenth in his first race for his new team.

The Ferrari car was not particularly fast in the qualifiers either, as evidenced by Hamilton’s eighth place and teammate Charles Leclerc‘s seventh place. There were hopes that the race would go better. However, the rainy conditions, combined with tactical choices, changed everything. According to Hamilton, Ferrari continued to run on slicks for too long after it had started raining. “This is a missed opportunity for us.”

The British driver is pleased to have scored his first point as a Ferrari driver. “But all in all, this is not what I had hoped for. This was a race where a lot happened, where you have to get used to a lot of things with a new team. The conditions were challenging, which also made driving the car difficult.”

However, he is not despairing. “The car has plenty to offer.”
