Korean automotive giant Hyundai is reportedly considering an investment in a Formula 1 team. The brand has long been a presence in rally racing, but has never before ventured into the premier class. Like Japanese automaker Honda, Hyundai could potentially partner with an existing team.
According to Motorsportweek.com, Hyundai is flirting with the idea of participating in Formula 1. It’s the latest car manufacturer to be enticed by the prestigious championship. The new engine regulations set for 2026, specifically designed to attract big names from the auto industry to the sport, are particularly appealing. Audi and Ford have already been persuaded to participate, while Honda has chosen to forge a new partnership with Aston Martin.

As one of the world’s largest car brands, Hyundai represents an attractive partner for Formula 1. Hyundai holds a significant position in the Asian market, a relatively new but important region for the sport. Since 2014, the brand has been primarily active in the World Rally Championship.
South Korea’s Grand Prix Ambitions
In South Korea, Hyundai’s home country, efforts are underway to host their own Grand Prix. Incheon, the country’s third-largest city, could potentially become the battleground for the Korean GP from 2026 onwards.
