Formula 1 chief Stefano Domenicali reveals that news about the future of several European circuits on the F1 calendar will be announced ‘very soon’. The contracts of many of these circuits, including Zandvoort and Spa-Francorchamps, are set to expire in 2025. Domenicali does not rule out a rotation system between the European races.
The contracts for Zandvoort, Spa-Francorchamps, Monza, and Monaco, among others, are due to expire in 2025. There is no clarity yet about the future of these European Grands Prix after the next season, especially as the street circuit in Madrid is also joining the Formula 1 calendar as a new European race. However, Domenicali reveals that news about the circuits with expiring contracts will be announced ‘very soon’.
“
Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond, we will of course soon have news to share about the possibility of rotating a number of European Grands Prix in the medium term and about other new options that will come later,” says Domenicali, speaking to the Italian Formu1a.uno, about the future of the European circuits. “And this is something that we will of course clarify in due course.” It is rumored that a possible rotation system could be on the F1 calendar as early as 2026.
’24 is a balanced number’
According to Domenicali, rotating certain circuits is the right choice, as no more Grands Prix can be added to the calendar. “We believe that the balance we have in terms of numbers is the right one, so 24 is the balanced number we deem appropriate,” says the Formula 1 boss. “And I believe that all the proposals that come to our table only give us the opportunity to make an even better choice for our future.”
