Jack Doohan has secured a Formula 1 contract with Alpine! The team announced this exciting news on Friday. The 21-year-old Australian has been serving as a reserve driver for the French racing team, but from 2025, he will have a permanent spot on the grid. WEC driver Mick Schumacher, who was also vying for a contract with Alpine, unfortunately missed out.

With the signing of Jack Doohan, Alpine’s line-up is complete; current driver Pierre Gasly had previously extended his collaboration. Esteban Ocon was let go earlier this year, but has since signed a new contract with the Haas team. Doohan will be the first driver from the Alpine Academy to progress to Formula 1. According to the team, the combination of the Australian and Gasly provides ‘a balance of youth and experience’.

Jack Doohan’s Excitement Over Joining Alpine

“I am incredibly happy to have secured a full-time seat with Alpine,” says Jack Doohan. “There is still a lot of work to be done before I am ready to debut, but I will do my utmost to prepare well for this step. I am extremely grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way to make this possible.” Doohan originally comes from the Red Bull breeding ground. He is the son of motorcycle racer Mick Doohan and has been a junior of the Enstone team since 2022. Last year, he finished third in the Formula 2 championship.

‘Hard Worker’

Oliver Oakes, the newly appointed team boss of Alpine, is also pleased with his future line-up. “We are very happy to see Jack Doohan in a Formula 1 car from next season,” he responds. “He will be the first driver to progress from the Alpine Academy to a racing seat, which is very good for the team and the relatively young training program. I had the pleasure of working with Jack in 2019 and I am fully aware of his talent and potential. He is a hard worker and his commitment is greatly appreciated by the entire team.”

Several drivers competed for the last Formula 1 seat at Alpine. Guanyu Zhou was said to have shown interest, but Mick Schumacher also seemed to have a chance at a new contract. The young German previously competed against Doohan during a special shoot-out at Circuit Paul Ricard.
