Over the weekend, Jos Verstappen participated in the Rally of Wallonia, where he was forced to withdraw while in the lead due to two flat tires. During the event, he was asked about Mercedes’ serious interest in Max Verstappen. “We remain very calm and wait to see what will happen,” he said.

Due to the internal power struggle within Red Bull, all the commotion surrounding team boss Christian Horner, and the uncertainty about Red Bull’s position when the new engine regulations come into effect in 2026, there is plenty of speculation about Max Verstappen’s sporting future. Although he has a contract running until 2028, he could possibly leave as early as after this season. Mercedes has shown serious interest and wants to start negotiations with the three-time world champion from Red Bull after the GP of Imola.

Jos Verstappen is not surprised by Mercedes’ interest, he told RaceXpress in Wallonia. “I think everyone wants him, but I think Max is in a good place right now. He has a fast car, but we also have to look ahead to 2026, so we’re just letting everything come our way at the moment.”
