Kevin Magnussen Faces Uncertain Future at Haas Amid Potential Replacements and Racing Ban Risk

June 18th, 2024, 7:40 AM

Kevin Magnussen’s position on the grid is uncertain. The Haas driver often falls short against Nico Hülkenberg and still faces the risk of a racing ban. Meanwhile, he sees his team boss talking to several potential replacements. Magnussen knows he’s under pressure for 2025, but also believes he’s just had bad luck in recent weeks.

In a conversation with Motorsport Week, Kevin Magnussen acknowledges the possibility of his dismissal. Haas has not yet confirmed their line-up for 2025, but many experts anticipate that the Americans may not want to continue with the Danish driver. “Yes, that could happen,” responded Magnussen. “But I want to stay in Formula 1. Only when all doors are closed will I look for something else.”

Kevin Magnussen, now 31 years old and a father of two, is not fazed by the potential dismissal. “If I were younger, this would probably have caused a lot of stress,” he explained. “But now I can easily shrug it off. I just get in the car and do my best.” Magnussen knows that team boss Ayao Komatsu is talking to reserve driver Oliver Bearman and Alpine’s Esteban Ocon. Yet, he still believes in his own abilities.

“I’m much better than last year,” said Magnussen. “Especially during the qualifications, things didn’t always go smoothly. This year is going much better, although I’ve also had a lot of bad luck. I’ve often been hindered by traffic, car problems, or just a bad out-lap. That has cost me good starting positions – a real shame, because the pace in the race is really great. With a bit more luck, I could have scored many more points.”

Magnussen has only scored one World Championship point in nine races. Teammate Nico Hülkenberg, who has secured a new contract with Sauber, is already on six points.
