In 2025, Kevin Magnussen embarks on a new adventure. The Danish driver joins BMW M Motorsport and becomes part of their LMDh program. Magnussen will take the wheel of the BMW M Hybrid V8 and focus on some of the world’s most prestigious long-distance races.
From Formula 1 to Endurance Racing
After 185 Formula 1 races between 2014 and 2024, it’s time for a new adventure. Magnussen, now 32 years old, has proven to be a versatile talent in his career. His F1 debut in 2014 immediately resulted in a podium finish, and in 2018 he achieved his best championship ranking with a ninth place.
In the world of endurance racing, the Dane has already made his mark. In 2021, he completed a full season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. There, he not only achieved a victory but also stood on the podium five times in the top DPi class. Additionally, he participated in the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans in the LMP2 class that same year. This experience makes him a logical choice for BMW’s LMDh project.
BMW Welcomes Magnussen
At BMW M Motorsport, they are excited about their new acquisition. Andreas Roos, head of BMW M Motorsport, expresses his confidence in Magnussen: “Kevin Magnussen is an excellent addition to our LMDh project. He has repeatedly proven his speed at the highest level in Formula 1 and also brings valuable experience with prototypes. We are pleased that he is joining the BMW M Motorsport family.”
Magnussen himself is also looking forward to the new challenge: “I am proud to represent an iconic brand like BMW in some of the most legendary races in the world. After ten years in Formula 1, I am starting an exciting new chapter. I can’t wait to get started and begin preparations for 2025 with the team.”
