Kevin Magnussen’s Uncertain Future: Potential New Roles at Haas Amidst Contract Changes and Intense F1 Season

In July, Kevin Magnussen was informed that his contract with Haas would not be extended. We now know that the American racing team has chosen a line-up with Esteban Ocon and Oliver Bearman for next year. However, there is a chance that Magnussen – who has built a ‘special bond’ with Haas over seven seasons – will remain involved with the team to some extent.

During the American triple header, Kevin Magnussen was asked about his future in racing. The 32-year-old driver still does not have a contract for the upcoming Formula 1 season. Now that all the seats for 2025 are essentially already allocated, the chances of seeing him back on the grid next year are slim. However, Haas team boss Ayao Komatsu has hinted several times that he wants to continue working with the Danish driver.

“We hope we can find a way for Magnussen to stay involved with the team,” Komatsu said in July. He referred to the ‘special bond’ between the Dane and the team. Magnussen was able to confirm to Formula1.com that he and the team now ‘know what we want to do’. “We’re still working on it,” said the veteran. “We’re not in a hurry – we’re busy enough during a triple header. There’s no time pressure.

Competition Heats Up

“The battle with our closest competitors is becoming increasingly intense,” added Kevin Magnussen. “Things can change quickly, so we really need to stay focused and do our best to beat the rest.” Haas – which has scored forty-six points so far – slipped to seventh place in the championship after the São Paulo GP. The gap with rivals Alpine and Visa RB is minimal. The French team is in sixth place with forty-nine points, while Visa RB follows in eighth place with forty-four points.

“I’m mainly focused on this championship,” concluded Magnussen. “I’m trying to finish as high as possible for the team. Ultimately, what you show on the track is of course the most important thing in this sport.” Magnussen began his career with Haas in 2017 and returned to the team in 2022 after a year’s absence.
