Lance Stroll has a plan to pull Aston Martin out of their downward spiral. The British team, which was competing for podium positions at the beginning of 2023, now finds itself in fifth place in the constructors’ championship a year later. Despite this, Stroll remains hopeful that his team can turn things around.

Currently, Aston Martin has 68 points in the constructors’ championship. This puts the British team at just over a third of their points total from twelve months ago. Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll acknowledges the team’s slump. “We were there at the beginning of last year,” Stroll told RaceFans, among others. The Canadian was quick to add that even then, Aston Martin was not performing at the desired level. “We were not in a position to win races last year. However, we did have a fast car, several podium finishes, and a lot of top-five finishes.”

British Team’s Downward Spiral in the Second Half of 2023 Season

The British team experienced a downward spiral during the second half of the 2023 season. Stroll, a member of the team, has an idea why this happened. “I think we ultimately went a bit in the wrong direction in terms of development philosophy,” explains the driver. “We are realizing this more and more now.” The Canadian also suggests a possible solution to the problem. “It’s a matter of taking a different path and then taking the time to develop. We need to get good again by taking this other path.”

Stroll Remains Hopeful

In the last race at Silverstone, Stroll and teammate Fernando Alonso finished seventh and eighth respectively. The Canadian believes this is a sign that Aston Martin is beginning to understand where things went wrong. “We have done a lot of research and many aerodynamic tests over the past twelve months,” he said. “With every upgrade we implemented last year, we did not see the benefit we were hoping for. I think we have learned a lot and now we are just trying to execute, solve the problem, and make the car a lot faster.”
