Lando Norris expresses frustration over the misinterpretation of his comments about Max Verstappen, particularly those regarding Verstappen’s ‘luck’ in Brazil. “It has created a wrong impression,” he says.
Lando Norris does not dispute Max Verstappen’s spectacular victory at the São Paulo Grand Prix. He was quick to praise the Dutchman on social media. However, his comment shortly after the race that Verstappen was lucky in Brazil upset many fans. Unfairly so, the Englishman reiterated in Las Vegas. “I said it in a certain context. I didn’t mean that Max was just lucky, his victory was actually great. And, as I’ve often said, he’s one of the best drivers ever.”
‘Title will be tough’
The incident, however, was a learning experience for Norris. “I always try to be honest, to be myself. But I’ve learned this season that it doesn’t mean everyone is always on your side. I’ve made more enemies this year. But also more fans, I notice.”
So, all’s well that ends well for the Brit? Even winning the drivers’ title is theoretically possible with a 62-point deficit. However, Norris himself doesn’t have much faith in it. “Because the gap is now so big, in the week after the São Paulo Grand Prix, I realized that it’s tough to finish first in the championship.” He seems to have accepted his friend’s title. “I’m just going to try to enjoy it, and try to win the constructors’ title with McLaren.
