During the recent Singapore Grand Prix, Lando Norris outperformed his closest rival, Max Verstappen, gaining valuable points in the drivers’ championship. The Englishman successfully converted his pole position into his third career victory. Former driver David Coulthard was astounded by Norris’s ‘exceptional’ race performance, placing him in a unique category of racers.

Before the race began, it was uncertain whether Lando Norris could maintain his first place. The McLaren driver had been criticized this year for his slow starts. However, at Marina Bay, he managed to defend his lead position, even with Max Verstappen hot on his heels. Sixty-two laps later, Norris crossed the finish line first, twenty seconds ahead of his Dutch competitor.

A Masterclass Performance by Norris

“A masterclass,” is how David Coulthard described Lando Norris‘s performance. “The fact that he manages to touch the wall every time without crashing shows that he has perfect control of his car. I was a bit surprised when he blocked and hit the guardrail towards the end of the race, but apart from that, it was flawless. Man and machine in perfect harmony.”

‘This was Exceptional’

“It’s been like this since the very first free practice,” Coulthard continued. “He was better than Oscar (Piastri), who himself also drove an impressive race. It seems as if Lando (Norris) is so modest that he doesn’t realize the great achievements he is making. At his best, I dare to place him next to Senna, Schumacher, and Hamilton. With a bit of luck, we can all win a Grand Prix, but this was exceptional,” concluded the Scot.

Not all former drivers are impressed by Norris’s latest victory. Former world champion Nico Rosberg suggested that drivers like Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen do not make the mistakes that Norris occasionally shows. The German found it ‘strange’ that Norris almost flew off the track three times. “He really needs to improve that if he wants to fight for the championship,” said Rosberg to Sky Sports.
