Lando Norris, who clinched victory in the latest edition of the Dutch GP at Zandvoort, is aware that Max Verstappen’s home circuit will be removed from the calendar in two years. It was announced on Wednesday that the organization will no longer host races after 2026. This is a loss for Dutch motorsport fans, but Lando Norris may have come up with a solution.
According to circuit director Robert van Overdijk, the Dutch GP aims to end on a high note. Waiting until interest eventually wanes would not be fitting for the event. In consultation with the FOM, there will be one final edition in 2026, including a sprint race on Saturday. The cost factor likely plays a significant role as well – the expenses for a Grand Prix are skyrocketing, and the Dutch GP at Zandvoort is always privately funded.
Lando Norris is also a fan of the Orange festival and the Dutch fans. Moreover, he won this year’s fourth edition of the ‘modern’ GP of the Netherlands. In 2021, Zandvoort returned to the calendar after thirty-six years. The British driver has now come up with a solution that could keep the circuit on the calendar after 2026. “Just let Max Verstappen pay that twenty million for the Dutch GP,” Norris joked to the media in Abu Dhabi.
