Lando Norris denies that the modifications to McLaren’s controversial rear wing have impacted his performance. The team chose to change the wings for the United States Grand Prix, and since then, the British driver has not won a race. “Nonsense,” Norris tells critics who link his performance to the controversial design.

There has been much controversy over McLaren’s rear wing during the season. The design came under scrutiny during the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Camera footage showed that on Oscar Piastri’s rear wing, the top element was pulling down the straight to create an opening. The MCL38 thus experienced less air resistance. McLaren made adjustments to all rear wings for the race in Austin.

Since then, Norris has not won a Grand Prix, leading some to claim that it was the rear wing that made the McLaren driver so strong. However, the Brit is done with all the speculation. “Everyone wants to say what they want. They can all keep believing their own nonsense,” the Brit tells Sky F1.

‘Just a slight difference’

According to the McLaren driver, the rear wing did not help as much as many analysts claimed. “It made a very slight difference, much less than what everyone thinks. It has given us much less than everyone thinks. It has nothing to do with that,” explains Norris.

The 25-year-old driver also immediately provides his own explanation for why he lost the drivers’ title to Verstappen. “Max just drove too well,” says Norris. “Red Bull and the whole team did too good a job, and we just lost it in the first six races.
