Lewis Hamilton in red: it’s an image the Formula 1 world is still adjusting to, but according to Christian Horner, it’s already a hit. The Red Bull team boss labels the move to Ferrari a ‘crowd-pleaser’ and sees it as a guarantee for spectacle in the new season.
First Day in Maranello a Smash Hit
Hamilton set foot in Maranello last week, where he was officially clad in Ferrari red for the first time. The racing stable shared several images of the seven-time world champion, including an iconic photo of Hamilton next to a Ferrari F40 at the former residence of Enzo Ferrari. That image immediately broke records and became the most liked Instagram post in F1 history.
In the garage too, Hamilton drew a lot of attention. He got acquainted with the team and stepped into a Ferrari Formula 1 car, the SF-23 from last season, for the first time. For the Tifosi, it was a moment to savor, while Hamilton himself is primarily looking forward to what’s to come. His goal is clear: to chase an eighth world title and deliver Ferrari its first driver’s title since Kimi Räikkönen in 2007.
‘Red Suits Him Well’
Horner, who has seen Lewis Hamilton as a rival at Mercedes for many years, admitted that he too is following the switch with interest. “I’ve seen the photos and red suits him well,” he said. “Lewis at Ferrari, that’s a real crowd-puller. It’s great for Formula 1.” The Red Bull team boss expects Hamilton’s move to Ferrari to be one of the ingredients for an exciting season. “It’s going to be incredibly thrilling,” predicts Horner. “We have four teams that are all very competitive. McLaren is strong, Ferrari is strong, and Mercedes has something to prove. It could well be a legendary year,” said Horner.
