Lewis Hamilton is set to face a new challenge in 2025, alongside his move to Ferrari. The racing driver will co-chair the Met Gala, an annual high-fashion fundraising event in New York. The event, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is themed Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.
Joining Hamilton as co-chairs of the event are singer Pharrell Williams, actor Colman Domingo, rapper A$AP Rocky, and basketball player LeBron James. The event is scheduled for May 5, 2025. Hamilton and Williams were present when the theme was announced. The Mercedes driver has been a guest at the annual event several times before.
An Immense Honor
“I feel immensely honored to be one of the co-chairs of next year’s Met Gala,” writes the seven-time world champion on his Instagram channel. “This theme speaks to me greatly. When I started my career, I never thought about what I could achieve outside of my sport. The pressure to conform holds so many people back.”
“Growing up as the only black boy on the circuit, that pressure often became too much,” Hamilton continues. “Expressing myself creatively was and still is my freedom from that conformity. For black people across the diaspora, fashion is self-preservation. Fashion is resilience and I can’t wait to further explore and amplify our underrepresented voices.”
