Liam Lawson is set to make a comeback at the United States Grand Prix. After five substitute appearances in 2023, he is now taking over Daniel Ricciardo’s seat full-time. The young New Zealander has never raced at the Circuit of the Americas, but he is nonetheless excited to be back on the starting grid. According to race director Alan Permane, Lawson is exceptionally well-prepared.

“I’m thrilled to be driving the VCARB 01 for the first time,” says Liam Lawson. “When I was a reserve driver, I visited COTA a few times. I think it’s one of my favorite races to attend; the atmosphere is amazing. Although I’ve never raced here, I’ve spent a lot of time in the simulator.”

The circuit near Austin is characterized by its notorious corner combinations and elevation changes, according to Lawson. “It has a fantastic layout,” he adds. “I’m looking forward to racing there. I’m just happy to be back in Formula 1 and working with the team to achieve the best results.” Lawson’s ultimate goal is clear: securing a seat with sister team Red Bull.

‘As Prepared As Possible’

“We’re heading to the Circuit of the Americas for the first event of a triple header,” adds race director Alan Permane. “This circuit is loved by both drivers and teams – it offers many challenges, from fast corners with quick direction changes to heavy braking and full-throttle long corners.”

“This weekend, we welcome Liam Lawson back into the cockpit,” concludes Permane. “Because it’s a sprint weekend, he only has one hour to practice before we start the race sessions. Fortunately, he has spent enough time in the simulator to familiarize himself with the circuit and the car’s setup. He is as prepared as possible for this challenge.”
