As we approach the 2025 season, significant changes are on the horizon. While a major regulatory shift is still pending, the driver’s market is experiencing a major reshuffle. During the winter break, numerous transfers are taking place, including Carlos Sainz’s move to Williams. Team boss James Vowles believes that with Sainz and Albon, Williams will soon have the best line-up.
James Vowles was recently a guest on the Beyond the Grid podcast, where he looked ahead to 2025 and the arrival of Carlos Sainz at Williams. “Next year, I think we will have the best line-up on the grid,” he confidently stated. “Franco (Colapinto) is doing great, let me make that clear. But what he doesn’t have is the experience that Sainz brings.”
Williams’ Ascent in the Championship
Williams has been working on a rise in the championship for several years. Under the leadership of Vowles, the team aims to compete at the forefront in the future. The team boss explained how Carlos Sainz will play a crucial role in this mission. “It’s not just about driving the car; we also need drivers who help the team grow,” he said. “That motivates us and helps us move forward.”
Relationship with Other Teammates
Vowles emphasized that Carlos Sainz has been able to compete with the best drivers in the past. The team boss does not think that the 29-year-old Spaniard was inferior to his teammates. In his two years at McLaren, he scored better than Lando Norris, and in his first year at Ferrari, he finished above Charles Leclerc. “Next to Norris, he was very successful,” said Vowles. “Against Charles (Leclerc), it went back and forth a bit, but he could indeed compete with him. And next to Max (Verstappen), in that first year at Toro Rosso, he was exceptionally good.”
“So it’s not that he’s never been challenged,” Vowles added. “But it’s also about what he shows outside the car. I know he drives the team forward; he wants to spend every minute of his time becoming even more successful. And ultimately, I want this to be a successful organization.”
