With the discontinuation of the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, Max Verstappen sees two more opportunities to win on home soil. The Red Bull driver has already dominated three times in front of his home crowd. He hopes to repeat this feat in 2025 and 2026. The world champion also expressed his fond memories of the four ‘fantastic’ editions of the race.
“We are proud that Formula 1, partly thanks to Max (Verstappen), has found its way to Zandvoort,” said Raymond Vermeulen, the manager of the Dutch world champion. “We already look back on four fantastic editions and have two more to go.” It was announced on Wednesday that an additional Grand Prix will be held at Zandvoort in 2026. Furthermore, a sprint race is also planned for that weekend.
‘The Netherlands Benefits from Zandvoort GP’
“It is known that Zandvoort has a different financial model than many other races on the Formula 1 calendar,” the statement continued. “They have to stand on their own two feet and have embarked on this without government support. The promoter sees opportunities until 2026 and believes it is better to say goodbye after that.” Dutch GP director Robert van Overdijk previously stated he wanted to end on a high note. “We’re not going to wait until interest wanes and then pull the plug,” he said.
“In many other countries, they believe that Formula 1 races are good for the economy, hence the government support they receive there – the Dutch economy has also benefited from the races in Zandvoort,” concluded Max Verstappen’s management critically. “But we are mainly looking forward to two more beautiful races in the Netherlands.” The next edition of the GP at Zandvoort will take place on August 31, 2025.
