Not a day goes by without Formula 1 analysts at home and abroad speculating about the future of Max Verstappen. Will he ever move to another racing team? Admittedly, after a mediocre winter test from Red Bull, it’s not unthinkable that the Dutch champion might consider a transfer, not to mention the upcoming changes in regulations. However, father Jos Verstappen wants to debunk at least one rumor, at the expense of analyst Jack Plooij.

In a television broadcast of Ziggo Sport, Jack Plooij shared a striking opinion – he is convinced that Max Verstappen will be driving for Mercedes by 2026. Verstappen’s contract with Red Bull runs until 2028, but according to the analyst, there are enough performance clauses to terminate the collaboration prematurely. “It’s been settled for a long time, guys,” Plooij said. “In 2026, he (Verstappen) will be driving for Mercedes.” Toto Wolff flirted openly last year with the idea of recruiting the Dutch champion, following the sudden departure of Lewis Hamilton. However, Verstappen insists that he remains loyal to Red Bull.

Father Jos Verstappen had his own thoughts about Jack Plooij’s statements. His response on social media left nothing to the imagination. “Jack, Jack, Jack,” he wrote on his X-account. “What nonsense you’re talking.” It’s clear that Verstappen’s future is a hot topic. While he himself is preparing for the season start in Melbourne, he is already being linked to Aston Martin, Ferrari, and now Mercedes. Whether he actually opts for an early departure remains to be seen.
