Max Verstappen has responded via social media platforms such as X and Instagram to the departure of Sergio Pérez from Red Bull Racing. The Dutchman reportedly looks back fondly on their collaboration over the past years.
“It was a great pleasure to race alongside you. We’ve had some incredible moments that I will remember forever. Thank you, Checo,” Verstappen said in response to his teammate’s departure.
Although Verstappen had little to no support from Pérez in the battle for the world title last season, the Dutchman believes the Mexican didn’t need to leave. At least, that’s what he publicly stated earlier. Pérez was never a challenger to Verstappen as a teammate, as the Mexican was simply outmatched in all aspects. However, he will be remembered as the man who did Verstappen a favor in 2021 by making life difficult for Lewis Hamilton in the final race in Abu Dhabi. Verstappen subsequently won his first world title in that race.

Who will succeed Pérez as Verstappen’s teammate after his departure is not yet officially clear. But with near certainty, the Dutchman will have Liam Lawson as his teammate at Red Bull Racing next year.
