During the Singapore Grand Prix, Max Verstappen managed to limit the damage in the World Championship race. He secured a second-place finish with his RB20, trailing behind the dominant winner, Lando Norris. The gap between the two drivers in the World Championship race is now 52 points, with six races and three sprint races remaining.

“It was a lonely race,” Max Verstappen admitted to interviewer David Coulthard on the grid immediately after the race. Indeed, the gap with Oscar Piastri behind him was almost as substantial as the margin with Norris ahead of him. “I thought you were going to lap me,” Verstappen joked with Norris earlier.

“I did my best. I tried to manage my own pace as best as possible. In the first stint, I struggled a lot with tyre wear, but it went much better in the second stint,” Verstappen said, who is content with his second-place finish. “We knew we would struggle here in Singapore. So, P2 is a good result. But being okay with P2 doesn’t mean you’re satisfied. From now on, we naturally want to improve. We’re still finishing behind McLaren, but we want to change that as soon as possible.”

Max Verstappen looked worn out after the 62-lap race, as was expected for all drivers. “It’s always tough here because of the heat, high humidity, and the long duration of the race. I’m mainly looking forward to recovering now.”
