Max Verstappen continues to dominate Formula 1. The three-time world champion from Red Bull has already won six races this season, leading the World Championship with a 56-point advantage over his closest rival, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc. However, former world champion Damon Hill warns of potential threats on the horizon.

As the Spanish Grand Prix approaches, Hill mentions four drivers in the F1 Nation podcast who he believes could potentially end Verstappen’s current dominance in Formula 1.

“Lewis Hamilton seems to have lost a bit of his edge this year. But I’m not saying he can’t regain it when competing with Max,” suggests Hill.

He continues, “The same applies to Fernando Alonso. I think as you get older, the real speed fades. Perhaps George Russell, maybe Charles Leclerc. And there are a few other candidates who could surprise him and put him under pressure, which Max wouldn’t enjoy.”

‘This is what the future looks like’

Hill also commends Red Bull’s decision to extend Sergio Pérez’s contract, despite the Mexican teammate’s form crisis. Hill comments, “If you want Max to stay with you and trust that he knows what the future looks like, then signing Checo might be a way to tell him: Look, this is what the future looks like, you won’t have a surprisingly new, super-fast teammate to worry about.”
