The 2024 Formula 1 season has come to a close! After the final race in Abu Dhabi, we can start counting down to the anniversary season of 2025, when Max Verstappen and his colleagues will once again line up at the start. In a tumultuous year, the Dutchman managed to secure his fourth world title in the premier class. Below is an overview of the records that Max Verstappen broke this year.

Illustrious Company

With four world titles, Max Verstappen belongs to an exclusive group of drivers. Only five other greats in the history of Formula 1 have four or more championships to their name: Michael Schumacher (7), Lewis Hamilton (7), Juan Manuel Fangio (5), Alain Prost (4), and Sebastian Vettel (4). If Verstappen manages to repeat this feat in 2025, he will definitively leave Prost and Vettel behind.

In the record books for consecutive victories, Verstappen shines in both the first and second places. In 2023, he won ten races in a row, a performance he almost matched in 2024 with nine consecutive victories. This record dates from the period between the GP of Japan in 2023 and the GP of Saudi Arabia in 2024. He shares second place with Sebastian Vettel, who also managed to win nine races in a row in 2013.

Championship Points

In the ranking of drivers with the most championship points, Verstappen completely dominates. He holds the first (2023: 575 points), second (2022: 454 points), and third place (2024: 437 points). Moreover, he broke Lewis Hamilton’s record for the most consecutive points scored, with an impressive streak of 1055 points. Between the GP of Emilia-Romagna in 2022 and the GP of Saudi Arabia in 2024, Verstappen consistently finished in the top ten. “With his fifth Grand Slam (pole position, race win, fastest lap, and leading every round) during the Bahrain GP, Max Verstappen now shares third place in the rankings. This puts him on par with legendary names such as Michael Schumacher and Alberto Ascari. Only Jim Clark (8) and Lewis Hamilton (6) have more. When it comes to hat tricks (pole position, race win, and fastest lap), Verstappen also impresses. With his performances during the Japan GP and the Bahrain GP, he brought his total to thirteen, good for a third place in the leaderboard.

Furthermore:

– Verstappen is among the top four drivers with the most consecutive seasons in which he won at least one race. Since 2016, the Dutchman has achieved at least one victory each year. This puts him on par with Ayrton Senna.
– The Dutchman has broken into the top three drivers with the most consecutive race starts. Verstappen participated in a staggering 209 consecutive Grands Prix.
– With a total of 40 pole positions, Verstappen has nestled himself in the top five drivers with the most poles. This puts him ahead of legends such as Jim Clark and Alain Prost.
– He also equaled Ayrton Senna’s record from the 80s for the most consecutive pole positions. Between the Abu Dhabi GP in 2023 and the Emilia-Romagna GP, he was in the first starting spot nine times.
– Verstappen now also shares Alain Prost’s 1993 record for the most consecutive pole positions from the start of the season. In 2024, he achieved pole position at the first seven Grands Prix, starting in Bahrain.
– Verstappen has broken into the top three drivers with the most wins from pole position. With 32 victories, he surpasses Sebastian Vettel and Ayrton Senna in this ranking.
– With 43 consecutive race finishes, Verstappen now ranks second in the list of drivers with the most uninterrupted finishes. He only has to concede to Lewis Hamilton, who holds a record of 48 uninterrupted finishes.”
