How does Max Verstappen balance his work and personal life? The Dutchman reveals his approach, with significant roles played by his girlfriend Kelly Piquet and ‘bonus daughter’ Penelope.
As of the 2024 season, Max Verstappen has accumulated four world titles and sixty-three victories. Therefore, it’s safe to say that motorsport plays a significant role in the life of the Red Bull driver. However, in his personal life, Formula 1 takes a backseat, Verstappen reveals.
“I don’t read anything, I don’t follow anything about Formula 1,” Verstappen discloses about his relaxation strategy. “If I come across something, I always ignore it. I only watch other sports, even when I’m at home. I really don’t care about what is written externally.” The driver does spend a lot of time in the simulator, though.
Separation
Additionally, he spends a lot of his time with friends and family, including his girlfriend Kelly Piquet and ‘bonus daughter’ Penelope. “What always helps when you come home, even if you’ve had a terrible weekend, ultimately that shouldn’t affect how you feel at home and the things you do,” says Verstappen.
“You always try to keep that separate. It’s not always easy for everyone, but that’s how you should try to do it,” the world champion continues. “Most of the time, I can leave the events of a weekend behind me as soon as I get home. Look, some weekends I might be a bit angrier or more disappointed by what happened, and then it might take a bit longer.”
