With 78 points, McLaren currently leads the Constructors’ Championship, but the team has no intention of resting on its laurels. The entire front of the pack is closely matched, says three-time Grand Prix winner Oscar Piastri, which is why the current constructors’ champion is not assuming the role of favorite for the Japanese Grand Prix.

Having already secured two victories, McLaren couldn’t have had a better start to the 2025 season. Despite the strong performances of both McLaren drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, during the first two races, the team is keeping its options open for the Japanese Grand Prix.

“Arriving in Japan after winning the race in China naturally feels fantastic,” Piastri shares in the preview. “But we also know that everything gets reset and we have to do our best again. The field is still extremely close at the front, so we need to keep performing.”

Favourite Circuit

Nevertheless, the Australian, who claimed his first pole position in Shanghai, is looking forward to the weekend in Japan. “Suzuka is one of the most enjoyable circuits for us as drivers. The fact that the circuit has remained the same for many years means that it feels great to race here.”

His teammate Norris wholeheartedly agrees with Piastri. “Suzuka as a circuit is fantastic to drive on.” The Brit took it easy in the free weekend preceding the Suzuka event, and thus arrives fresh and fully prepared at the start of the iconic circuit. “We’ve learned a lot from the first two races, now it’s time to put that into practice.”
