McLaren’s team has once again opted for a special chrome livery. During the United States Grand Prix, drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will race with this iconic color scheme on their cars. About fifteen years ago, chrome was the base color for McLaren, but in Austin, this striking metallic look will be combined with the historic papaya orange.

During the 2023 British Grand Prix, the team also applied a chrome layer to the car. In the run-up to the race weekend in Texas, McLaren is once again choosing this livery. “In collaboration with sponsor Google, McLaren will release a second edition of the beloved Chrome colors on the cars during the United States Grand Prix,” according to an official press release.

At Alpine, they can breathe a sigh of relief. The French introduced a new livery for the United States Grand Prix on Tuesday. In collaboration with a new video game, the A524 will be colored orange this weekend. A confusing choice, many fans find, because the car now looks very much like McLaren’s regular color scheme. Hopefully, the new chrome livery can prevent confusion!

McLaren’s Iconic Chrome and Red Livery: A Look Back

Between 2006 and 2014, chrome was the dominant color on McLaren’s cars. The main sponsor, Vodafone, created a striking combination of chrome and red, which many McLaren fans still consider one of the most beautiful liveries in the team’s history. In 2008, Lewis Hamilton won his first world title in the MP4-23, a car featuring this iconic color scheme.
