Breaking with tradition, Mercedes has decided not to present their car for the 2025 season at Silverstone this year. Instead, the German racing team will unveil the W16 during a filming day at the Bahrain International Circuit on February 25. Mercedes will, however, participate in the F1 75 event in London on February 18.
Since 2017, Mercedes has always showcased the car for the upcoming season at an event at Silverstone, with the exception of the W12 in 2021. “It always rains in Silverstone, so we decided we don’t want to stand in the freezing rain again!” Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff joked at the time.
Embargo
According to Motorsport.com, Mercedes is skipping the traditional launch event this year in order to continue working on the W16 for as long as possible. The German racing team will, however, be present at the F1 75 event in the O2 Arena on February 18. An embargo is in place on all liveries of the various teams’ cars until that time.
Ferrari previously announced that it will hold a launch event for Lewis Hamilton’s first Scuderia car on February 19. Williams will hold their event on Valentine’s Day, February 14, but will not yet reveal the official livery for the 2025 season. Many teams are expected to only announce their final cars during the pre-season tests in Bahrain.
