Nico Hülkenberg Joins Sauber for 2025: Team’s Quest for the Ideal Teammate Amidst Rising Transfer Market Buzz

Nico Hülkenberg’s Future with Sauber and the Search for His Teammate

Nico Hülkenberg recently announced his move to the Sauber team in 2025, a move that hints at a future Audi project. This partnership with the German automotive giant is undoubtedly an attractive prospect for other drivers. Sauber CEO Andreas Seidl confirms that the team is actively searching for a teammate for Hülkenberg, looking beyond the current roster of drivers.

It’s unclear who is on Sauber’s radar. However, since the transfer market got a boost in February thanks to Lewis Hamilton’s move, many names have been circulating. Carlos Sainz, who is being let go by Ferrari, is a frequently mentioned candidate. Whether Sauber can convince the Spaniard to sign as early as next year remains to be seen, as the current Stake F1 Team is not a popular destination.

CEO Andreas Seidl may choose to extend the partnership with Valtteri Bottas or Guanyu Zhou in the meantime. “We are in talks with both and are closely monitoring their performances,” the German told Formula1.com. “But at the same time, we are also keeping an eye on the market so that we have all our options ready for a later decision. Now that we have secured Nico (Hülkenberg), we are in no rush.”

Nico Hülkenberg’s Impact on Sauber

The collaboration between Sauber and Nico Hülkenberg was a no-brainer for Seidl. “He is often incredibly fast,” said the CEO. “His knowledge and experience are also extremely valuable for the future of the team, but ultimately it’s just impressive how fast he is every weekend in both the qualifying and the race. That’s why we didn’t want to wait any longer.”
